I have to admit, i had heard about the guy before the wwe, but never followed him.
and ill admit, when he wont the MITB for the 2nd year in a row i was PISSED OFF.
How times change.
The last 2 weeks have been a revolation in my eyes. Punk has gone from pretty boring face persona, to very interesting and amazingly well played tweener.
But not really a tweener, he is clearly still MEANT to be a 'face', but subtle things happen and subtle things are said to put doubt in the fans minds.
the way he beat Jeff for the belt was the kick start to it all. I think it was done to perfection. Jeff looked double tough, winning a ladder match AND kicking out the first GTS. Only to fall to the 2nd GTS. In a total of about 1 minute or so, Punk looks awesome, desperate and then elated.
And this weeks Raw, Punk stole the limelight, without going over board, without a big huge fight or anything like that.
and i know it is on a much smaller scale, but Punk took what Hogan did to the Warrior...Punk stole Jeffs moment.
Walking into the ring and holding up Jeffs hand in victory was so subtle, but it worked. When Jeff pulled away Punk looked shocked, and then he smiled and then he held up his World title.
Jeff had won the match, but Punk was standing in the ring with the spotlight.
I actually want to see the PPV to see what Punk does, i want to watch SD to see what Punk does.
If they keep the belt on Punk and he continues down this road, he could cement himself as the superstar of SD.
Good for him.
