...Well, at least for one night!
TNA announced a 3 hour show with Hulk Hogan for January 4th. Rumor has it that WWE will make RAW 3 hours as well, so it will truly be head-to-head.
Should be good... I think it's safe to assume both brands will bring their A-game this night. Of course, in the world of online streaming and TiVo, head-to-head competition doesn't mean quite as much- but I'm still pretty excited.
Let's face it- the late 90s were the golden age for WWF. You had the Rock-n-Sock Connection, DX in it's truest form (well, minus HBK), The Corporation being perhaps the greatest heel stable ever, some phenomenal tag team divisions lead by Edge and Christian and the Hardyz... and of course, Stone Cold Steve Austin. The late 90s were when I started watching pro-wrestling, and it's not hard to see why I became hooked- it was phenomenal television. Being a bit of a loyalist, I've stuck with WWE through some of the lesser times afterwards... but I really hope that a new direct competition brings these glory days back.
I might even check out TNA's show... though I'd watch RAW as a loyalist, I'd probably try to watch TNA online afterwards.
WWE will probably try to get a really big name to guest-host RAW. If I were them, I'd go with Austin or The Rock, if possible. Definitely a wrestling figure, seeing that this should be the ONE night where they need to focus on their current fans as opposed to wooing new ones. If they had to go with a real celebrity- maybe Micky Rourke?

Bill is bitter about life right now. Matt, I think the Monday Night Showdown will be awesome....and unless the WWE starts hyping up something HUGE, I expect to see TNA get more viewers. Why? It's their first LIVE Monday Night show....aaaaaaand.....HULK HOGAN. They've been hyping his debut for well over a month now. Love him or hate him, the fact remains....HULK HOGAN = VIEWERS! They keep talking about when Hogan comes, he's not coming alone. Who will he bring? I'm thinking it's Flair, but I'm not sure. I'm also guessing you'll see AJ Styles vs. Bobby Lashley for the title. Lashley has a title shot, so why not do it on the Monday Night show? Would be huge for ratings. I'm also guessing the X Division Title will be on the line in an Ultimate X match....just those two alone would be huge. I'm guessing you'll see every championship on the line. All that, added with the debut of HUUUUULK HOOOOOOGAN....and you've got something huge for TNA. If I owned the WWE, I would definitely get either The Rock or Austin to host. I think that would be huge. They need to have the WWE Championship on the line, and they need to have it be a huge match. The should also have the World Heavyweight championship on the line. Hell, have the ECW Championship on the line as well....in order for the WWE to keep up that Monday, they need something extremely huge! Either way, I think it's going to be an exciting night for wrestling. I'm hoping if there is a Monday Night war between the two, that the WWE will really step up and make their shows better.

I'm a bit tipsy and could not read everything you said Timmy but...
They WANTED The Rock to host the night TNA was on MOnday but, I don't know if that'll happen cause Disney wants him somewhere else to promote crap....and I do mean CRAP!

im excited, this has got to be a good thing right?
i have no idea what channel TNA plays on in the US, obviously i will not be able to watch it live.
if i could, i would choose TNA because Vince and the WWE need a wake up call, they have been stringing the fans along with mediocore crap for too long now.
all i hope, and i really really mean it is that Hogan turns up and puts the right talent over. If he shows up and the show is all about Steiner, Nash, Flair etc etc then the WWE will be smiling because although initial ratings might be good for TNA, if it is going to be all about the 'old guard' then it will not last.
If Hogan wants to make an 'impact' and wants to scare the hell out of Vince, Hogan needs to walk into the Impact Zone and keep it simple and clear...
...with his name and his franchise behind TNA, they will be pushing the real talent onto monday nights, that means the Knockout division, the X division and the tag division being showcased as something the WWE does not have a clue at how to manage and the main event scene being focused on Styles/Daniels/Joe etc etc.
Oh, and Angle...he is different, he can still put on the greatest matches in the business, but i like his spot as the main event 'face', but without the belt. He, like Taker etc etc does not need the belt and his spot right now is putting Wolff into an amazing position to be a future, long time star in TNA.
As for the WWE, right now i really do not care. They will shove HHH/HBK/CENA/TAKER etc etc all over the show because they do not know who else to use.
Again, if Vince was smart he would use that night to showcase the fresh talent the WWE has.
Maybe he will, but im not holding my breath.
