So I was on prowrestling.com today, checking out some WWE and TNA news....here's a couple of things that I found to be interesting....
1) The Smackdown brand has been drug tested, and been pretty clean. Some are calling Smackdown the "clean brand"....reports say that Raw has had a lot of issues with drugs. So bad that there has been talks about what they are going to do with this issue.
- My thought....suspend whoever is doing it. We've seen too many deaths because of drugs. The fact is, there is a drug policy for a reason. If they break it, they should be suspended, fined, etc....For the life of me, I can't understand why these guys are into drugs. They make an assload of money to do something they love....and they take chances by fucking with drugs. It's stupid.
2) prowrestling.com did an interview with HBK....he said something about only being a part time wrestler. He takes summers off to be with his family. He doesn't travel as much as he used to, and takes time away from the ring if he needs to recover. He said his body doesn't recover like it used to, and when he eventually retires, he'll let his body recover the rest of the way.
- My thoughts are simple. The fucking guy has been doing this shit for a long time. He's not trying to hog the title like The Undertaker is, so it's all good with me. He's part of DX, having fun with his friend. Why not let him do it up part time. Do I wish he was a full time wrestler? Of course I do....but I'm ok with him being a part timer.
3) The WWE plans on making changes to ECW and Smackdown....reports are that ECW's ratings are at an all time low, and SyFy might not renew their contract with the WWE. WWE is planning on dropping everything to do with the ECW name and just focus on the new breed of wrestlers. They are planning on doing some changes with Smackdown, but not an insane amount like they are planning with ECW.
- My thought is this: Good for them. ECW isn't what it used to be. ECW has become a place for the new guys to show what they have. It's been good for that too. Some guys have had great starts because of ECW. Look at John Morrison. The guy cashed in on Benoit not showing (we know the reasons why)....and because of that, it showed people what Morrison could do as a singles competitor. Thats a good thing. CM Punk, Kofi, Swagger, Sheamus....there are a few guys who have really shined because of ECW. I think switching things up is an awesome thing. As for Smackdown....I think it's decent, but sure, there could be some improvements. I'd be happy to see some positive switches over there....especially switches like Christian Cage going there to kick ass.
4) Hogan has made the official announcement about TNA running a 3 hour show in the beginning of January to compete with Raw. Hogan went on to say that if they fail in the ratings war, he'll regroup and come back for another fight.
- My thoughts: WHY THE FUCK IS WWE ADVERTISING THIS GUYS DVD/BOOK, whatever the fuck it is thats out now? Seriously, the guys teaming with Dixie Carter and TNA, trying to take out Vince and the WWE....He keeps talking about going head to head with the WWE and taking them over. He keeps talking about there being a war between the two....so why does the WWE keep advertising his shit? Seriously, if it were me, I would completely stop advertising this guy. Do I love TNA? Yes! Do I love Hogan? Yes. Do I agree with Hogan using the WWE name to try to boost TNA? FUCK NO! If you want to compete with the WWE, go for it....but stop bad mouthing the company.
I should add this....
Hogan teaming with TNA....and WWE still helping sell hi shit....has me really thinking....but honestly, I've been thinking this for quite some time....
could Vince own TNA? I know this was a huge topic back in the day....but think about something....and I mean really think about this....
When the WWE has decent talent, but nothing to do with them, what happens? They go to TNA and rebuild their career.
Kurt Angle: The guy was huge in the WWE, but lets be honest, his character was getting lame. They didn't know what to do with him so they sent him to ECW. A short time later, he "leaves" the company, and shows up on TNA.
Booker T: Same thing.
Matt Morgan: Sure, he's been with TNA longer, but he was with the WWE, but the WWE was having a hard time building his career. Now, he's a star in TNA.
Mick Foley: His career was nothing in the WWE, but he wanted to still be a part of things....he's a big deal in TNA.
There are others. We know this....look at Christian Cage....all the fans wanted to see him become a huge start in the WWE. Vince never did it. He "leaves" and a short time later shows up on TNA....as a main eventer. He steps up and kicks ass....shows the world that he is a main eventer....then he goes back to the WWE and is the ECW champion, making a solid name for himself there.
It just seems to me like these two companies are WAY too connected. I wouldn't be surprised if Vince had some sort of ownership in that company. It's just my thoughts....but I've felt this way for quite a while, and with this new Hogan thing, I really feel that way!
