I never even thought to call My Chemical Romance or Metro Station "punk." I really like the former and a little of the latter, but they're not punk. Nothing wrong with that, but that isn't their label. Umm, yeah MCR=Emo like Matt and Metro Station = Metro like AJ. Ur new name will be: MetrEmo (Meh-tree-moe) Bitches. I hate LuMmy but, even LuMmy is better than MetrEmo

The best advice would be to limit the time you spend paying attention to radio and crap like MTV. Unless of course you enjoy over-saturation of a select few songs, a few of which you might have actually liked under different circumstances.
If you know what you're looking for out of music, all you really need is to frequent a few music sites tailored to your needs, or have a last.fm account. That way you circumvent 99% of the garbage, maintain a respectable hit-rate and discover more decent artists you otherwise wouldn't have heard about.

I have to say this, since it irritates me a bit. Its absolutely not fair to group together 'bad music' in the same sentence as radio and TV. Its even less fair to say that if you listen to the indie scene, go to a previously unknown website, and don't spend time listening to the radio that you'll discover good music. I find I don't like half of the indie crap...just like I don't enjoy half of the crap on the radio. So condemning one or the other doesn't seem right.
Besides, by saying fuck the mainstream completely, your doing the same thing to the radio as the radio does to indie music...not giving everything a chance.

I wouldn't classify MCR as "emo." Even they reject and hate the label. To truly be emo, you have to live it up. I have all three of their CDs (one or two being gifts as once a friend of mine rips as CD, he has no more use for it). They upped the production quality for The Black Parade, but I found their first two CDs to be rock, but not overly whiny. I didn't listen to them until this year because I just assumed they were emo, but I gave them a try and liked what I heard. A couple songs of their first album sounded hard rock-ish to me. Oh well, it's all in what you perceive.
I won't even touch the Metro Station comment because I know no one could hate on a band that has Miley Cyrus's brother.
Besides, I like that MT-AJ isn't popular. I like being underground. Once we get popular, we'll break up because we will make ourselves hate what everyone else likes because we have to be cutting edge and cool and not like everyone else (meant facetiously as I loathe people like that. Fucking posers).
I try to hear as much as I can. I'm getting back to listening to the radio because I've missed quite a few songs these past couple of years. A lot of what I hear comes from my friends(who have different tastes than I do, which is a good thing). They like stuff that isn't always mainstream and introduce it to me, and that's the only way I hear it. I don't turn away music unless I'm fairly sure I won't like it, even that can be vetoed by a recommendation from a friend.

I'm Emo?
I think I'm too happy to be emo.
And I hate MCR.

WTF? I miss being around one day and everyone is ragging on MCR?!
One of my fav MCR songs. (That guy did a great job with a video)
I thought about using 'Helena' for my entrance but, 'Devour' is a bit more fitting. lol You can call me whatever you'd like for enjoying MCR. I have their albums and an MCR wallet.
Metro Station on the other hand? No thanks. My buddy likes them.... runs around school wearing a Metro Station t-shirt. Drives me crazy cause the dude couldn't be any farther from Metro. He's like a freaking Goth sellout lol
Anyways.... I refuse to call them MetrEmo! Cause I love MCR, and I'm not Emo. Plus, calling them MetrEmo might upset Timmy, after all...he's the true MetrEmo around here right? lol hehehe

Wow, Jake jumped to my aid. That's the most unexpected thing ever.
Actually the "Ghost of You" video was the first thing I saw/heard from them. It's good. The Helena video was cool, too.

That was the first Vid I saw of them too.... but, I wasn't a big fan of it I like the rest of their stuff that I heard....even less! I guess MetrEmo consists of three douchebags! You guys could make a band.....Even though Matt is the only one with musical talent! P.S. Check out his myspace. I love his songs
