As many of you know, I've been in Toronto for the past two weeks, training to become a fight choreographer- so I can teach stage combat for film and theatre projects.
Well, we had our tests today... and I passed!
So now I can fake-kick-ass in unarmed, rapier swords, and quarterstaff!
Which is sort of like being a wrestler, except with cooler weapons.
Woot.
I'll be back in America tomorrow. Thank god- the hostel I'm staying at SUUUUCKS.

You can get certified for that?

Yup... there are plenty of fight directors out there who aren't certified, but the certification proves that you've been formally trained. Plus- if an uncertified director choreographs something that goes wrong, he has to defend it himself and potentially hurt his reputation. If a certified director choreographs something that goes wrong, the director's company (In my instance, Fight Directors Canada) will be able to investigate properly, and gives the director more protection assuming what he taught was, in fact, the standard. And there are a LOT of injuries/lawsuits from stage combat gone awry- certification shows safety.
