Why does it take tragedy to change the way things are approached? Security upgrades in airplanes required 9/11. The way Wal-Mart approaches Black Friday sales, was changed by our store here in Putnam when three gang kids robbed people at gunpoint, and shot one when he refused. Another example would that of the Hollywood actress who was stalked by an obsessed fan and killed when she refused to go out on a date with him. He found her information through the DVM which were public records at the time, and went to her house and shot her to death. Through this incident, DVM records across the country are no longer public. It required Columbine Tragedy to spurn schools for better and safer ways to protect against guns and violence, and bullying as well in schools. Over 20 students died as a result of a lack of emphasis on policies that changed after. Let's try one more. Adam Walsh, who is now tragically infamous for playing a role in how child abduction at retail stores is handled, was abducted in 1981 and killed. Now protocol has changed to prevent this at all costs with lockdowns the second a child goes missing and is reported as missing.
The thing that spurred this, was the student at Notre Dame who fell to his death after a hydrolic lift failed. The article stated that most athletic supervisors would be reviewing all of their hydrolic lifts after this to ensure safety
... why does it take tragedy and the loss of life to change things? Is human life that worthless that it's regarded as pawns in a bigger picture?
