The show opened with The Ringmaster coming out onto the stage. He wanted to reaffirm that in tonight’s main event, if anyone interfered they would be suspended and that the ruling applied to MJ Windsor and Donzig. The Ringmaster said he had the backing of the Board on this and it was water tight!
The first match of the night was booked to showcase the talents of AWA’s newest roster members, and whilst it achieved this, it was not in the way anyone was expecting.
NEWCOMERS CHALLENGE
Ryan Cavallari Vs Kevin Chevelle Vs Daniel Vercetti w/Thomas Vercetti
Ryan Cavallari had taken his spot in the ring, but instead of his opponents following suit, the AWA tron showed everyone what was going on backstage.
Kevin Chevelle and Daniel Vercetti had been laid out backstage at the hands of Marcus Cooper and Green.
The duo then made a beeline for the ring. Cavallari stood tall but the 2 on 1 advantage was too much, and he went the way of Chevelle and Vercetti and was taken out by two men who were out to prove they were hungrier and more determined than anyone to make an impact in the AWA!
Following this, Green stayed in the ring as his grudge match with Brian Shelby was up next. The ref ordered Marcus Cooper to leave ringside and that Gavin Drake was also not to accompany his tag team partner, Shelby, to the ring.
GRUDGE MATCH
Brian Shelby Vs Green
These two superstars have been linked in a heated rivalry for the last few weeks, with both scoring victories over the other.
The action was back and forth with neither gaining a clear advantage. The fans became vocal when Green tried to take a short cut and use the ropes for leverage on a pin attempt, this alerted the ref and the pin was not counted.
The fight eventually went to the outside and with both men consumed with hurting the other, the referee had no choice but to call for the ten count, making this a double DQ.
HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP
REMATCH
Gavin Drake (c) Vs "The Solution" Jake Andrews
The fans were really looking forward to this match, whilst they had taken to Gavin Drake, the majority wanted to see Jake Andrews reclaim the championship that he lost at Halloween Havoc.
Unfortunately for them and for Andrews, this did not happen.
Whilst reports suggested that Jake Andrews had been passed as fit and healthy, it became clear that this was not the case.
Moments after the bell rang, Jake Andrews collapsed in the middle of the ring. He showed signs of consciousness, it was evident that Andrews was in no fit state to wrestle and the referee had to stop the match before it really got started. Jake Andrews left ringside on a stretcher and was taken directly to a local medical facility. AWA.com will keep the updates on his condition coming.
The Ringmaster showed up once again to let Drake and everyone else know what the next move would be. The Ringmaster said that owing to the earlier match between Green and Shelby having no clear winner, and owing to the fact that Green and Cooper were clearly looking to work as a unit, at Battle of Champions there will be a match.
A Hardcore Tag Team Championship match, Shelby and Drake Vs Green and Cooper.
But, if Drake ends up taking to fall for his team, not only will they loss the Tag titles, he will also loss the Hardcore Championship to whomever it is that defeats him!
The Ringmaster said he knew it was not a popular call, but he had tried to show The Affliction that he was on their side, but they always chose to ignore it and cause him trouble so now if they want to moan, he has given them something to really moan about!
Up next was the huge main event, once again James Lucas and Joel Frost would meet to determine who would get another shot at the AWA Champion, Slam II at Night of Champions.
MAIN EVENT
No.1 CONTENDER - WORLDS CHAMPIONSHIP
If anyone, including Donzig or MJ Windsor interfer inside the ring, they will be suspended
"The Franchise" James Lucas w/MJ Windsor Vs "The Chosen One" Frost w/Donzig
Tensions were high, and were made worse as NoC opponents, Donzig and MJ Windsor stood on opposite sides of the ring, aware that if they let their own agendas boil over it would mean they would be suspended.
The in ring action was hot, both men with a bitter hatred for each other and both men wanting a one on one shot against the Worlds Champion.
This match was not given a time limit and as they both dug down for an extra something at the 28 minute mark, Frost manages to connect with super kick that caught The Franchise square on the jaw and saw the Affliction member pick up the hard fought win.
the moment the bell rang, MJ Windsor hit the ring to attend to James Lucas. The interaction did not last long as “The Franchise” spoke a few ‘off mic’ words to his mentor and then left the ring, he stopped and looked back half way up the ramp but then turned and walked off.
This left MJ in the ring with Joel Frost and Donzig. MJ fronted up to them and hell was about to break loose when AWA Champion, Slam II hit the ring. With it now looking like 3 on 1, MJ decided to fight another day, leaving Slam II in the ring with the Affliction.
The Ringmaster showed up for the final time and said that he had been instructed by the Board of Directors to send security to the ring to make sure Slam II came to no harm.
Slam looked even more unhappy with this than Joel Frost, but it happened and the show went off air with these men only able to stare at each other over a wall of security.
RESULTS
Cavallari Vs Chevelle Vs Vercetti ended in a NO CONTEST
Green Vs Brian Shelby ended in a DOUBLE COUNT OUT
Gavin Drake retained the Hardcore Championship by REFEREE STOPPAGE over Jake Andrews
