Think about the finishing moves.
Hogan: A leg drop. Macho Man: Elbow Drop. Junk Yard Dogg: A powerslam. Ultimate Warrior: Press Slam, then jumped on top of him. Jake Roberts: DDT. Rick Rude: A neckbreaker.
Some of these guys had simple finishing moves....that now, aren't even set up moves. When did it all change? When did we go from your basic moves, being finishing moves, to needing something flashy? I'm not sure who began it.

I'd like to say ECW helped change that but, once the Luchas got pushed with WCW....it started to make waves with it.
The first tag team I can think of that did this is L.O.D. While the Doomsday Device wasn't overly flashy, it was new, exciting, and high impact.
I might be willing to go as far to say that HBK really led the way. Most tag teams did to. The Rockers for example.
Wrestling started to become a show of sport rather than a sport show. They started getting many people around on the TV and really needed to stop using 'basic' moves that everyone else used as normal moves and not finishers.
The DDT is probably the most mainstream former finisher in the wrestling world.
And while I never liked the Leg Drop.....Ultimate Warrior had the worse finisher in the history of the world. I've been watching WWE classics at MSG on the MSG channel and, I finally realized that Warrior was just a hyped up baffoon.....plain and simple

I agree about The Ultimate Warrior. Pretty dumb gimmick, but, he was built, could move pretty fast(although he wasn't a flashy wrestler), and had the paint and wrestling gear to make him huge. The WWE pushed him hard. Old school we had Hogan. New School we had Austin. Old school we had Ultimate Warrior. New school we have John Cena. Aren't we lucky

I might not like Cena worth a damn but, at least he doesn't act like a cracked out monkey on steroids!
