From Ring of Honor.
First of all- Nigel is a British name. McGuinness is very much an Irish name. I'm just going to assume this dude is German. (Though according to his Wikipedia page, he's British).
Second- this is the second major ROH performer to sign with WWE recently, the other being Bryan Danielson.
I freakin' love this.
I can't claim to be an ROH fan, but not because I'm disinterested. I don't have HDNet, and I have far too many other things I'm focused on- hell, it's rare that I get to watch WWE (thank god for the Internet, or I'd never keep up).
But I've watched a few YouTube clips... some old CM Punk clips, and more recently Danielson and McGuinness.
ROH has been thrilled. They've put out press releases to announce the WWE signings. They're looking at it as great publicity... WWE fans will see these great athletes, find out their ROH roots, and then check 'em out.
It kind of reminds me of WWE's relationship with the original ECW. WWE was perhaps a little bit more helpful with ECW... ECW's "invasion" of RAW, Tazz winning with ECW Title while with WWE, etc. But both ROH and ECW were/are a breeding ground for new talent. How many WWE wrestlers started in ECW (especially in the late 90s/early 2000s)? It seems like a lot are now coming from ROH.

yeah..and look how 'over' Tazz got inside the WWE ring
your right though, it is exciting. will they bring in some kinda ROH group? With CM Punk as the leader? Could be cool.
who knows...im not holding out hope, that way it can only be better...right?

Nigel McGuinness is fucking awesome. He was the RoH Champion for quite a long time. If he comes into the WWE with the same kind of attitude, he could really be something awesome. If the WWE is smart, they will get these RoH guys, and use them in the same way RoH uses them. Like they did with RVD, Tommy Dreamer, Sandman, Sabu etc. Nigel is an established "indy" wrestler, as is Danielson. Ric Flair is RoH's (can remember the exact name, but he's sorta like their General Manager).......so there are close ties between the WWE and RoH. I'm happy that the WWE is taking note of these "indy" wrestlers, and bringing them in. They should be allowed to start in ECW, and work their way up. Nigel McGuinness could have some awesome feuds with Christian. I always thought Nigel would sign with TNA to join World Elite. Him and Eric Young running the show together could have been awesome. Either way, I'm pumped about this signing. I can't wait to see him on WWE TV.

WWE actually stopped Flair from working RoH for sometime, just when he was getting started as the GM or whatever. That was WWE being it's usual paranoid self.
