Ok, haven't watched TNA in ages... and I keep up with WWE online, but rarely get to watch...
Thank God for the Internets, because I will be able to watch both. I won't be watching them on Monday due to the fact that I've got a rehearsal (theatre majors have no time for TV).
So, here's my thoughts...
TNA vs. WWE
Impact vs. RAW
Hogan vs. Hart
Um...
Brown vs. Board of Education.
Ecks vs. Sever
Etc.
I started watching WWE in 1998, about a year after the Screwjob. I didn't know about Montreal until years afterwards, so I had no idea that the 1998 Survivor Series was a "parallel" of the screwjob (when Shane "screwed" Austin by refusing to count, and then later Vince screwed Mankind ala Bret Hart to make The Rock the new champion). But even though I didn't know the entire backstory of the Montreal Screwjob, all I knew was that I was highly entertained, very emotionally involved (and, but a very young kid at the time, thought the storylines were true. Boy was I dumb).
But this was at the height of the Monday Night Wars. Austin, DX (in it's TRUEST form, with New Age Outlaws and X-Pac... we'll forget about Chyna), The Rock, The Ministry... Then through the years we got the best of WCW coming to WWE, from Jericho to the Radicalz (Still really sad to think of them, though...).
I really, really want TNA to succeed. I KNOW they're not going to beat WWE on Monday... let's face it, Bret Hart's return is probably the biggest shock since Shawn Michaels returned to the ring. And it looks like Hart is returning for more than just one night.
Even if Hart wasn't back, WWE would still win by producing just another show. They have very loyal fans. I'm sure TNA will still lure enough of them away via Hulk Hogan, but Hogan is not enough to take away loyalty.
Imagine if it were reversed- Hart showed up on Impact, Hogan guest-hosts RAW. My guess is that there would be no difference- WWE would still win. Hart showing up on TNA does not have nearly as much shock value as him coming to WWE.
I'm sure some old-school wrestling fans will at least be interested; the entire story of the Screwjob has become that of legend. It'll be great for those fans to have some closure to the entire story- even if it means dealing with shit like Hornswoggle.
But again, I'm pulling for TNA. I'd love for the Monday Night Wars to continue. Maybe it'd force WWE to go back to the Attitude Era- get away from the PG format and start creating more edgy storylines. A direct competition FORCES each company to do better.
I actually think that it'd be smarter for TNA to go after Smackdown. RAW is WWE's premier show (though Smackdown is better, in my opinion). Spike is a more established channel then MyNetworkTV or whatever it's called... I think they'd actually have a better shot at beating Smackdown. They know they won't beat RAW, but it's more of a long-term goal anyways.
I will be watching both shows on the Internets this Tuesday. I'm pumped.
