This is usually a tradition around here, and I'm shocked none of us put it up here this year. Oh well, better late than never!
Arizona Cardinals at New Orleans Saints
- The Saints are my team (a mere 90 miles from my house), and this season has been great (the ending, not so much). They are finally healthy on defense, and I predict them to look much different than the team at the end of the season. Having Greer and Porter at CB allows Sharper to play centerfield (where he thrives). Fujita and Shanle are back and will help Vilma in our LB Corps. Losing Grant hurt a little, but the Fresh Prince is healthy and should get pressure on Warner. The offense should rebound against a defense that gave up 35 in a half to Green Bay. Shockey and Thomas returning will be big. They also re-signed Deuce McAllister for the playoffs. Huge emotional lift!
Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis Colts
- This game could go either way. Conventional wisdom says the Colts choke again with a first round bye. Also, defense wins, and Baltimore has the better D. Something just tells me the Colts buck the trend. If they can get up and force Flacco to throw, then they should win handily.
Dallas Cowboys at Minnesota Vikings
- Minnesota at New Orleans is the NFC Championship game I've begged for since Favre (grew up the next county over) signed with the Vikes. I think Dallas has been overvalued as they beat a depleted Saints team and beat up on a one-dimensional Eagles team. They have a good D and a great running attack, but Minnesota isn't exactly lacking in either department. The Vikings are a different team at home and should show it.
New York Jets at San Diego Chargers
- This is the only came where an upset can occur as the other three could go either way and not shock anyone. Yeah, the Jets can run and play defense, but Sanchez is going to have to win the game for them if they are going to win it. I don't think he can. He'll throw some picks and the Chargers advance.
As long as the Saints win, all my other projections can be wrong and I won't care!
