In the 80's Hulk Hogan was an Icon. He was the spotlight of the wrestling world. However, I was never a fan of the man. I was more a fan of Ted DiBiase and Ric Flair. Hogan was to cartoonish for me. Even as a kid who loved cartoons.
Hulk Hogan would fight men twice his size and get beaten up. He would try to fight back and find no recourse. But, eventually he would find the one thing that would get him the upper hand, 'Hulking up'. This was brought on by a succession of punches by his opponent in combination of massive support from the fans.
Hulk Hogan would start to shake his head and hands uncontrollably with his fists clenched as his feet stomped. Then, after one final blow, the death stare. Hogan would freeze and stare a hole through his opponent. Even someone as massive as Big John Studd or even Andre The Giant. He would extend his finger and point at him while shaking his head 'no'. That's when he would go on an all out assault of punches followed by an irish whip with a big boot. Then, he would suffer from a hearing loss and try to hear the crowd as they got louder. He would bounce off the ropes and deliver his devastating leg drop and make the pin.
But, Did Hogan really have any other moves? Sure! He had an atomic drop, a clothesline, sometimes a bear hug and of course a move he learned later in WCW, the Finger of Death.
But over the years, Hulk Hogan never really developed much of a move set. Hogan wasn't what you would call a wrestler. He was an entertainer. However, he failed to Entertain me!
Fast Forward to WCW and the nWo....Hogan was still at the top of his game and in the spotlight, but was still unable to perform a real move set. The only thing different is that he learned to take more bumps and falls then he did in his WWF/Hulkamania days. I still didn't like him even though I was pro nWo.
Hulkamania was reborn and it was a nightmare to end all nightmares. Hogan was getting older. His hair was getting thinner and his handlebar mustache was getting whiter and thicker. THings were coming around full circle but no matter how much anything changed, one thing remained the same....Hogan's move set.....or lack there of.
Now in TNA, Hulk Hogan can hardly walk. He has had numerous surgeries on his back and needs crutches to help get around. Finally his move set has changed and he doesn't have one. But, he's still putting himself in the spot light. He's still trying to aact like he's the top dog. 'THEY' had the potential to be something HUGE for TNA and really wow people and grab ratings. 'THEY' could have been a fantastic storyline and angle. But, Hulk Hogan can't be out of the limelight...
Hulk Hogan, who can barely walk a straight line on his own, is the leader of 'They' along with Eric Bischoff.
Hogan in the spotlight yet again....I guess somethings NEVER change.
